Project Overview

A global tech consulting organisation is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join its engineering platform team, responsible for building and evolving the internal developer platform that enables engineering teams to deliver software securely, reliably and at scale.

This role will focus on developing cloud-native platform capabilities on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), standardising engineering tooling, and improving the developer experience across multiple delivery teams. You will play a key role in building reusable platform services, automating infrastructure, and embedding security, compliance and operational excellence into the software delivery lifecycle.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Platform Engineer or DevOps Engineer who enjoys building engineering platforms, enabling development teams, and driving cloud engineering best practices within a highly regulated environment.

Key Activities

Developer Platform Engineering: Design, build and maintain internal developer platforms that improve developer productivity while ensuring security, reliability and scalability.

Engineering Toolchain Management: Own and enhance the central engineering toolchain, including GitHub Enterprise/GitHub Cloud, GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot and GitHub-hosted runners, establishing consistent engineering standards and guardrails.

Infrastructure as Code: Design and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform (or equivalent) to provision and manage Google Cloud Platform infrastructure.

Automation & Platform Tooling: Develop automation and platform tooling using Python and/or Java to streamline infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, CI/CD pipelines and operational processes.

CI/CD & DevOps: Design, standardise and optimise GitHub Actions pipelines supporting build, testing, security scanning and deployment across microservices and batch workloads.

Cloud Operations & Observability: Monitor platform reliability, performance and cost, implementing logging, metrics, tracing and proactive optimisation strategies across GCP-hosted environments.

Platform Enablement: Partner with engineering teams to onboard applications onto the platform, troubleshoot complex technical issues and promote cloud-native engineering best practices.

Security & Compliance: Collaborate with Security, Risk and Architecture teams to embed secure-by-default principles, policy-as-code, secrets management and compliance controls throughout the platform.
