Our client is seeking a Banking Product Management consultant to join an existing project in South Africa, supporting the development of a new product architecture and launch product suite. Working closely with the client’s Chief Product Officer and the project delivery team, the consultant will translate customer research and Jobs to be Done into detailed, commercially viable banking product designs.

The role will focus heavily on the practical design and build of products, defining how each product will work across mechanics, business rules, pricing, funding and risk considerations. This is a medium-weight delivery role suited to someone with hands-on banking product management experience who can quickly contribute without needing to learn the fundamentals of banking products.

Key Activities

• Support the Chief Product Officer in designing banking products for launch.
• Translate customer research, Jobs to be Done and experience design concepts into practical product propositions.
• Develop detailed product specifications and documentation.
• Define product descriptions, features, mechanics and operating models.
• Design and refine product business rules.
• Determine appropriate product pricing models and funding mechanisms.
• For credit products, support the design of credit rules, scorecard requirements, funding structures and credit risk considerations.
• Work closely with business owners and subject matter experts to validate product designs.
• Gather input, challenge assumptions and iteratively refine product specifications.
• Ensure product designs are commercially viable and operationally implementable.
• Coordinate with the Experience Design team and wider project workstreams.
• Prepare product documentation for stakeholder review and approval.
• Incorporate feedback and publish final product specifications.
• Work as part of the project delivery team, taking direction from the client CPO and project lead.

Your Background

Essential

• Strong hands-on Product Management experience within banking.
• Experience designing, developing or launching banking products.
• Good understanding of banking product mechanics, business rules and commercial considerations.
• Experience developing detailed product specifications and product documentation.
• Ability to translate customer needs and propositions into executable product designs.
• Experience defining and refining product pricing and business rules.
• Strong understanding of how banking products operate across the wider business.
• Experience working directly with business owners and senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and contribute quickly within an established project team.

Desirable?

• Experience designing credit or lending products.
• Understanding of credit risk, credit rules and scorecards.
• Experience with product funding models and funding mechanisms.
• Experience across multiple banking product categories.
