A leading global consulting firm is supporting a large energy sector client on a strategic oil & gas and trading transformation initiative.
As part of this engagement, the consultant will play a key role in shaping commercial and strategic insights across the downstream, refining, and trading value chain. This is an opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to a large-scale transformation program within India’s energy sector.
The team is specifically looking for professionals with strong exposure to crude oil, petroleum products, LNG, or commodity trading environments, ideally from organisations such as HPCL, BPCL, ONGC, Vitol, Trafigura, Glencore, Shell, BP, Mercuria, or Saudi Aramco. Within PSU environments such as HPCL, BPCL, and ONGC, preference will be for candidates with direct trading or commercial optimisation experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structured analyses across oil & gas markets, including crude sourcing, refining economics, fuel marketing, trading operations, and commercial optimisation.
- Support strategic assessments around trading growth opportunities, supply chain optimisation, and market positioning within the downstream and energy trading ecosystem.
- Develop financial models and business cases for trading strategies, sourcing optimisation, infrastructure investments, and commercial partnerships.
- Benchmark the client’s operational and commercial capabilities against regional and global energy majors and trading houses.
- Synthesise complex market, pricing, and trading data into executive-ready presentations and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams including finance, supply chain, operations, and commercial/trading stakeholders.
- Support scenario planning and risk assessments related to crude price volatility, geopolitical developments, refining margins, and global commodity market shifts.
Your Background
- 3–4 years of post-MBA consulting experience at MBB, Kearney, Accenture, YCP, or similar firms, OR 4–5 years within a Big 4 or leading energy organisation with a strong focus on oil & gas, downstream, trading, or energy strategy.
- Strong preference for candidates with exposure to oil trading, LNG trading, commodity trading, refining economics, supply optimisation, or downstream commercial operations.
- Prior experience with energy majors, trading houses, or PSU oil & gas companies such as HPCL, BPCL, ONGC, Shell, BP, Vitol, Trafigura, Mercuria, Glencore, or Aramco will be highly valued.
- Strong command of quantitative modeling and structured problem-solving; experience with commercial analytics and trading performance analysis is preferred.
- Tier 1 B-school MBA strongly preferred; otherwise, a strong track record within leading consulting or energy organisations.
