A leading Indian chemicals and fertilisers company is exploring a bio-methanol production initiative using bagasse and other biomass feedstocks as part of its broader focus on sustainable chemical production and alternative feedstock technologies.
The consultant will provide senior technical expertise to independently review and challenge the proposed engineering approach, assess technology options and validate the overall process design. They will work closely with the client's project team and engineering partners to support key technology decisions, identify technical risks and establish the feasibility of the proposed bio-methanol facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and critically assess the proposed bio-methanol production route using bagasse and other biomass feedstocks through gasification.
- Validate the process design basis across feedstock preparation, gasification, syngas cleaning and conditioning, methanol synthesis and purification.
- Review material and energy balances, feedstock consumption, methanol yield, utility requirements and overall plant efficiency.
- Evaluate gasification and methanol production technologies, licensors and available technology options, supporting the client in technology selection and key technical trade-offs.
- Assess integration with existing bagasse processing, steam and power generation, utilities and offsite infrastructure, identifying potential technical and operational risks.
- Review CAPEX/OPEX assumptions and feasibility conclusions, and provide technical inputs for subsequent FEED and RFP requirements.
Your Background
- B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology.
- Typically 20+ years of relevant process engineering or project engineering experience.
- Strong technical expertise in biomass gasification, synthesis-grade syngas treatment and conditioning, and/or methanol synthesis.
- Experience in feasibility studies, FEED/basic engineering and technology or licensor evaluation.
- Prior experience working with an owner organisation, PMC, technology licensor or senior EPC engineering team is preferred.
- Direct experience in biomass-to-methanol projects would be an added advantage.
