Project Overview
A leading consulting firm is supporting a client exploring the development of a data centre in Thailand. The client is considering acquiring or securing land from a listed entity and requires technical due diligence to assess the feasibility and associated risks before proceeding with the transaction.
The engagement will focus on validating the proposed power infrastructure and energisation plan for the site, ensuring that the proposed electricity supply is credible, technically feasible and capable of supporting the data centre’s operational requirements.
The consultant will work closely with the consulting team to review technical information provided by the land-owning entity, assess the proposed power solution and identify potential risks within the Thailand context.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess the proposed power supply and energisation plan for the data centre site.
- Evaluate the feasibility of the proposed power connection, including connection point, voltage level, transmission/distribution route and substation requirements.
- Validate available evidence of power capacity and assess whether the proposed supply can meet the data centre’s anticipated requirements.
- Assess the independence and redundancy of proposed power routes and supply arrangements.
- Review and challenge assumptions relating to power procurement, infrastructure construction, commissioning and energisation timelines.
- Identify potential technical, regulatory, utility-related and execution risks, drawing on familiarity with Thailand’s power sector and utility processes.
- Assess the credibility of the proposed energisation timeline and identify potential bottlenecks or dependencies.
- Prepare a power feasibility assessment, annotated connection concept, evidence-gap register and assessment of the achievable energisation timeline.
Ideal Consultant Profile
- Approximately 15+ years of experience in high-voltage substations, transmission/distribution connections, power infrastructure or utility-interface delivery.
- Strong experience in technical due diligence, feasibility assessments or infrastructure project evaluation.
- Direct Thailand project experience and familiarity with relevant utility processes and local infrastructure requirements.
- Ability to review technical documentation, validate infrastructure plans and challenge assumptions.
- Experience with data centres or other power-intensive infrastructure projects would be highly relevant.
- A former utility engineer, owner's engineer or power infrastructure consultant could be a strong fit.
