Project Overview

Our client, a global consulting firm, is supporting a leading Indian public sector bank is undertaking a major digital transformation to rebuild its retail omni-channel banking platform in partnership with an incumbent technology vendor. The platform is being modernised on a contemporary technology stack spanning Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Kafka, Oracle, Redis, Istio and Flutter.

As the Technology Consultant, you will own the target architecture and provide independent technical direction across application, integration, infrastructure and security layers. You will work closely with the bank and its technology vendor to establish the architecture, technical standards and governance required to build a scalable, secure and resilient digital banking platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end target architecture for the omni-channel platform, defining architecture principles, guardrails and the phased path from the current state to the target state.
  • Assess and reshape the existing microservice architecture, including service boundaries, data ownership, transaction patterns and event-driven architecture, and provide independent recommendations to the vendor.
  • Define the target API gateway, integration, configuration and security architecture, including API security, zero-trust principles, stateless architecture, event streaming and caching.
  • Develop independent capacity and infrastructure sizing models covering digital channels, UPI and IMPS, and reconcile these against the vendor's estimates.
  • Define the platform's migration, resilience and non-functional architecture, covering active-active design, performance, observability, failure handling, rollback and release readiness.
  • Establish technical governance over the vendor, including architecture and coding standards, design/code conformance reviews, CI/CD and DevSecOps practices, release criteria and technical risk escalation.

Your Background

  • 12+ years of technology experience, including at least 5 years in banking or payments.
  • Proven experience owning the target architecture of a retail bank's digital or omni-channel platform, with direct accountability for architectural decisions and governance.
  • Strong, recent hands-on experience with Java-based microservices and Kubernetes at production scale, including the ability to independently assess service design and repository-level implementation.
  • Strong expertise in API and platform security, including OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, mTLS, certificate and key management, schema validation, threat protection and zero-trust architecture.
  • Experience governing technology delivery vendors, including conducting design/code conformance reviews, issuing written findings and holding vendors accountable for remediation.
  • Experience with technologies such as Kafka, CQRS/SAGA, Istio/service mesh, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, GitLab CI/CD and DevSecOps is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to Finacle/core banking integration, UPI/IMPS/NPCI rails, active-active data centre architecture, Flutter/Dart, or regulated/public-sector banking environments would be advantageous.

Other Info

  • The contractual engagement will run for 12 months, on a full-time basis (5 days/week).
  • The consultant will be required to work onsite in Delhi and will work closely with the bank and its incumbent technology vendor throughout the engagement.
