Project Overview

We are seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer with 8–10 years of experience to lead client-facing product delivery for a dynamic technology-driven organisation based in Melbourne. You will architect and deliver enterprise-grade user interfaces using React or Vue with TypeScript, integrating seamlessly with advanced backend AI systems and serverless cloud infrastructures. This is a critical technical leadership role within a high-performing team of ex-Google engineers, where your contribution will shape the frontend strategy and quality standards for a sophisticated, regulated sector client.

The engagement spans 3 to 6 months and requires a blend of remote flexibility and on-site presence in Melbourne's CBD for client workshops, architecture reviews, and milestone demonstrations. Success will be measured by the robustness, scalability, and performance of the frontend systems you architect, your ability to translate complex business workflows into achievable technical solutions, and your mentorship impact on the delivery team.

Key Activities

• Frontend Architecture & Design: Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale React or Vue applications, establishing component architecture, system design patterns, and TypeScript configurations that prioritise type safety, modularity, and developer velocity.
• Type Safety & Code Quality: Enforce strict TypeScript governance across codebases, defining robust type definitions, design patterns, and utility types to minimise runtime errors and maintain architectural integrity.
• Cloud Integration: Collaborate with backend and platform engineering teams to integrate stateful UI components with real-time streaming APIs, RESTful endpoints, and event-driven microservices on Google Cloud Platform.
• Performance & Compliance: Implement web accessibility standards (WCAG), optimise Core Web Vitals, establish comprehensive unit and integration testing frameworks, and enforce cross-browser compatibility and frontend security best practices.
• Technical Leadership & Collaboration: Act as a technical authority during sprint planning and refinement ceremonies, translating client business requirements into frontend architecture and mentoring junior developers through design reviews and pair programming.
• Client Engagement: Participate in high-alignment workshops, architecture reviews, and milestone demonstrations with Melbourne-based clients, communicating technical trade-offs and strategic decisions to both executive and development stakeholders.

Your Background

Essential:

• 8–10 years of professional frontend software engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping production-grade applications at scale.
• Expert-level proficiency in React and TypeScript, including advanced concepts such as generics, utility types, and strict type checking.
• Deep expertise in modern React state management ecosystems (Redux Toolkit, Context API, Zustand, React Query) and contemporary build tooling (Vite, Webpack).
• Demonstrated obsession with frontend performance optimisation, code-splitting, lazy loading, caching strategies, and browser security mechanisms.
• Exceptional English communication skills with the ability to articulate technical trade-offs and architectural decisions to both enterprise stakeholders and junior developers.

Desirable:

• Direct experience deploying frontend builds to Google Cloud Platform environments, including Cloud Storage, CDN configuration, and serverless architectures.
• Previous experience architecting frontends in highly regulated Australian sectors such as Banking, Digital Lending, Energy, or Telecommunications.
• Proficiency with modern AI code-acceleration tools (e.g., Gemini Code Assist, Cursor) to enhance prototyping and test-suite development velocity.
