Project Overview

A leading global payments organisation is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive adoption and new sales of its digital acceptance products across New Zealand.


This role will focus on expanding the uptake of products, including Click to Pay, Network Tokenisation, and Authentication across acquirers and merchants. The successful consultant will be responsible for managing and growing merchant relationships, generating and qualifying leads, and progressing opportunities through the sales pipeline.


This is a full-time, 6-month contract based in Auckland CBD, operating in a hybrid working model (4 days per week in-office preferred). The engagement will commence ASAP, with potential for extension beyond 31 December 2026.


Key Responsibilities

  • Drive new product business development by initiating contact with potential customers and managing opportunities through to close
  • Identify and qualify potential merchants through research, cold calling, and networking
  • Generate leads and set up meetings to support the sales pipeline
  • Manage and progress opportunities across multiple stages of the sales cycle
  • Support local account teams to maximise client utilisation of digital acceptance products
  • Maintain and manage a structured pipeline of prospects, ensuring consistent follow-up
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reporting on performance
  • Execute the end-to-end sales process, from prospecting through to commercial contract execution
  • Collaborate with Australia-based teams, sharing insights and learnings across markets


Your Background

  • 5+ years’ experience in sales or business development, ideally within payments, retailers, or acquirers
  • Strong ability to build and develop senior-level relationships
  • Technical presales experience with a solid understanding of payments
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously across different stages of the sales process
  • Strong communication skills, both externally with clients and internally within teams
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to business development
  • Willingness to travel within New Zealand
