Project Overview

Our client, a leading global management consulting firm, is supporting a major renewable energy player on a large-scale capital expenditure (CapEx) construction project. The initiative involves the development of critical infrastructure including plants, factories, or warehouse facilities as part of the client’s broader energy transition roadmap.

The initial construction planning phase has faced significant challenges, with issues around scheduling, sequencing, and cost projections. As a result, the consulting firm has been engaged to step in, identify bottlenecks, and establish a robust and actionable construction plan that aligns with project goals.

To ensure effective execution of the project and eliminate delays due to fragmented design processes, the client is seeking to onboard an experienced Design Coordination Consultant. The focus of the role will be on managing and coordinating multidisciplinary design elements across architectural, structural, MEP, and other technical disciplines - ensuring design quality, timely delivery, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

1.    Design Management

  • Develop and coordinate design deliverables across architectural, structural, civil/finishes, interior, landscape, and MEP disciplines.
  • Prepare and maintain a comprehensive design schedule to ensure timely completion of design packages with high quality and compliance standards.
  • Ensure accurate and timely production, documentation, and issuance of all design drawings across disciplines.
  • Manage and update drawing release schedules, GFC (Good for Construction) drawing logs, and project close-out reports reflecting design changes during execution.

2.    Change Management

  • Establish and implement a structured process for managing design changes with minimal disruption to project delivery.
  • Coordinate and track all change orders, ensuring clear communication and timely integration into updated design packages.
  • Analyze the cost and time implications of design changes and provide recommendations for mitigation or approval.

3.    Quality Control & Compliance

  • Review all design outputs to ensure compliance with safety codes, local building regulations, and project standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of BOQs, specifications, and consultant drawings to ensure alignment with the design brief.
  • Perform site reviews to identify and resolve any design-related discrepancies or execution issues.

4.    Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead regular design coordination and review meetings with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to address design issues and align on deliverables.
  • Manage submissions and approval workflows for RFIs, shop drawings, mock-ups, and other design-related documentation.
  • Coordinate preparation of accurate As-Built drawings in collaboration with project and contractor teams.
  • Support contractual communication and assist in preparing documentation for change orders related to design scope, ensuring traceability and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in design management and coordination, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience at construction sites.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in architecture is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in design interpretation and deliverable generation; expertise in managing design execution at site.
  • Software: Advanced working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Photoshop; familiarity with other BIM or project collaboration platforms is a plus.
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction workflows and design-to-execution coordination practices.

Other Information:

  • This is a contractual opportunity and will be on an initial 6-month contract with a high possibility of an extension.
  • The consultant is expected to relocate to Surat for the full duration of the project and should be comfortable with travel as required based on project needs.
  • All arrangements related to stay and travel will be managed by the client.
  • Given the critical nature of the project, this role will require a 6-day workweek
