Our client, Deloitte South Africa, is seeking a Payments Regulatory Support Specialist to join their team on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for a junior compliance or legal professional with 2 to 4 years of experience, particularly in the payment's regulation space. The successful candidate will work closely with a senior payments specialist to support the delivery of regulatory guidance and respond to payments-related queries.
This hybrid role is based in Johannesburg, with 2 days in-office and 3 days remote per week.
Key Responsibilities of the role include:
- Respond to payments-related regulatory and compliance queries
- Support the implementation of guidance provided by senior payments specialists
- Ensure alignment with relevant legislation, rules, and policies
Core Requirements:
- 2–4 years of relevant post-articles or professional working experience
- Legal or compliance background (legal qualification preferred)
- Knowledge of key payments legislation and regulations, including:
– National Payment System Act
– PASA Directives
– Banks Act
– Payment Card Standards
– Clearing & Settlement Rules
– Payment Clearing House Agreements
- Strong understanding of payments regulatory frameworks
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
Advantageous Experience & Skills:
- Familiarity with the national payment system and key stakeholders (SARB, BankservAfrica, Visa, Mastercard, PASA, banks, etc.)
- Understanding of payment streams: Card, ATM, EFT Debit/Credit, DebiCheck, RTC, PayShap
- Interest in emerging trends: CBDC, tokenization, digital identity, QR codes
- Knowledge of cross-border payments and SWIFT network
- Previous consulting or financial services experience
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
