Our client, a leading global management consulting firm, is partnering with a financial services client in Southeast Asia to launch the first bullion bank in the region. This venture aims to develop and scale gold-based financial products beyond traditional retail offerings by creating structured financial instruments, derivatives, and a broader bullion-based banking ecosystem.
Currently in the acceleration phase, the team is refining its blueprint and is seeking a seasoned bullion banking expert to advise on product development, operations, and global best practices. This is a high-impact advisory role with global reach, offering an opportunity to help shape a first-of-its-kind offering in Southeast Asia.
The core team is based in Indonesia, but this engagement is open to experts globally.
What You Will Be Doing
- Strategic Product Development & Advisory
- Advise on the design, structuring, and scaling of bullion banking products, including derivatives, lending instruments, and gold-backed financial services.
- Share best practices and insights from mature bullion markets (e.g., London Bullion Market Association frameworks).
- Help craft a roadmap for building globally competitive bullion banking capabilities.
- Operations & Scaling Advisory
- Provide operational insights on how to build and scale bullion banking functions, covering product lifecycle, risk, treasury, and infrastructure.
- Guide the setup of back-office systems, controls, and compliance aligned with bullion-specific products.
- Regulatory & Global Expansion Readiness
- Consult on regulatory engagement strategies, including licensing, compliance, and reporting requirements across Southeast Asia.
- Advise on how to scale the business globally, including partnerships, market entry considerations, and infrastructure expansion.
Your Background
Must Have:
- Experience:
- 10–20 years of experience in bullion banking, with direct involvement in product development and operational design.
- Deep exposure to precious metal markets, including gold lending, trading, derivatives, and structured financial products.
- Prior experience with banks known for bullion operations (e.g., HSBC, Barclays, JPMorgan, ICBC) or associated with LBMA.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of bullion regulatory environments, compliance frameworks, and market infrastructure.
- Experience advising on or building bullion product portfolios for wholesale, institutional, or retail segments.
Nice to Have:
- Global market experience, particularly in London, India, China, Turkey, or North America.
- Exposure to venture or new business build-outs within financial services.
