Out client, a leading Australian bank is seeking a Payments Lead with expertise in debit card issuing to drive product development, operational improvements, and compliance initiatives within their Everyday Banking team. This role involves overseeing priority projects in the debit segment, ensuring product innovation, regulatory alignment, and seamless customer experiences.


The ideal talent will have a technical product management background in payments, with deep expertise in card issuing, clearing and settlements, and payments technology. This is a hands-on opportunity to work across product strategy, development, market analysis, and operational execution, collaborating closely with technology, marketing, compliance, and vendor partners to deliver high-impact solutions.


Key Activities


  • Product Development: Lead the design and enhancement of debit card products, ensuring they align with market trends and customer needs.
  • Project Management: Oversee priority initiatives in debit issuing, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams, including IT, marketing, compliance, and external vendors, to drive seamless product execution.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct ongoing research to identify opportunities for product innovation and competitive differentiation.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure debit card products and processes adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Vendor & Technology Management: Manage relationships with external partners (e.g., DXC Technologies, Connex, and payment schemes) to support operational excellence.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor product performance using data-driven insights, driving improvements to optimise the customer experience and business impact.


Your Background


Essential:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management or payments consulting, with a focus on card issuing and debit products.
  • Expertise in payments technology, clearing & settlements, and issuing platforms.
  • Strong technical product management background, with hands-on experience in Jira, sprint management, and product development lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse market trends and translate them into strategic product enhancements.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with a track record of leading cross-functional teams.
  • Deep understanding of payments regulations, industry standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.


Desirable:

  • Experience working with DXC Technologies, Connex, and payment schemes.
  • Background in merchant acquiring or broader card payments ecosystems.
  • Proficiency in payments infrastructure, digital banking solutions, and emerging fintech trends.
